Goa Institution for Future Transformation - GIFT

The Goa Government established the Goa Institution for Future Transformation (GIFT) on the lines of the NITI Commission. The GIFT policy will work on the lines of the Commission. This will help, advise and guide the government in formulating policy and its implementation. It will also help monitor sustainable development goals and evaluate a number of development plans, programs and schemes. The Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation has issued a notification. It will be supported under Article 309 of the Constitution of India to achieve autonomy. GIFT will also act as Goa’s knowledge hub, showcasing best practices suitable for the sustainable development of the state.

The Union Cabinet had approved the proposal to set up GIFT. Later, the late Manohar Parrikar, the former Chief Minister of Goa, closed down the State Planning Board from April 1, 2017 after the Central Government closed down the Planning Commission at the national level. The composition of the gift was announced by the current Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, in his budget speech. GIFT was earlier renamed as State Institution for Transforming Goa (ST-Goa).

Planning Commission

It is an organization of the Government of India, known for formulating India's five-year plans. The commission was dissolved in 2014 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the dissolution of the commission in his first Independence Day speech. Former commissioned members of the commission included the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Home Affairs, the Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the Minister of Law, the Minister of Information Technology, the Minister of State for Planning and the Minister of Human Resource Development.
