Aspergillosis Fungal Infection

 Amid the country's fight against the Covid-19 epidemic and the rising number of cases of mucosmrikiosis, doctors in Ghaziabad, Mumbai and Gujarat have reported cases of a new disease called 'aspergillosis'.

What is aspergillosis

Aspergillosis is an allergic reaction to a fungal infection, fungal growth, or aspergillus fungus.  This fungus is also found inside and outside the home. It lives on rotten plants or dead leaves.  This fungal infection is not as deadly as black fungus but it can be fatal.

How do people get infected?

People can breathe and come in contact with microscopic "Aspergillus spores" in the environment. Although people are exposed to the fungus every day but they never get the disease. This is because aspergillosis infects people with lung disease or a weakened immune system. It causes infections in the organs and other allergic reactions.

Types of aspergillosis

There are 5 types of aspergillosis, namely allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, aspergilloma (fungus ball), allergic aspergillus sinusitis, allergic aspergillus sinusitis and chronic pulmonary disease.  However, rare sinus pulmonary aspergillosis is also seen in COVID-19 patients.

What are the symptoms of pulmonary asperdillosis?

Some of the symptoms are weight loss, cough, coughing up blood, shortness of breath and fatigue.
